Mr Packer – Headteacher

I am not alone in loving this school. I lead a team of ever improving staff and we work with an outstanding governing body to improve the prospects of every one of our 1270 Academy students. The school is outstanding in many areas.

We are a welcoming institution with a special culture developed over many years. We enjoy having parents, prospective students and educational professionals visit. Our acclaimed school systems are designed to work in the interests of every child. To that end staff are challenged to provide the best and are supported through excellent professional development towards this goal. Outstanding teaching is our expectation of every teacher.

We work closely with all of the Trowbridge primary schools; transition processes
are exemplary. At the secondary level we are part of the West Wiltshire Alliance and this includes our neighbouring school, St Augustine's Catholic College. I do believe that we can offer more to our learners by working in collaboration with a wide variety of individuals and centres of excellence but our belief in partnership is illustrated best in our close work with parents who talk of the ‘exceptional support’ (Ofsted) that their children receive.

Ofsted

The school creates an atmosphere of trust in which students are well cared for and the school provides a haven for many of them.

Behaviour is good and behaviour for learning in the 6th Form is excellent.

Lessons have a respectful learning environment and there are constructive relationships throughout the school; staff work effectively together to encourage learning.

Teachers manage students with assurance; their calm and courtesy is infectious.

The school uses its good understanding of its students to provide a relevant and engaging range of subjects that are adapted to their needs.

Small numbers of students receive alternative provision off-site. They benefit from a curriculum that is well adapted to their needs and from working in small groups so that they can achieve well.

The Headteacher, Senior Leaders and staff share high ambitions for the school and Governors provide helpful support and have good skills.
